Design Guidelines

1.Design for Manufacturing (DFM)

  • Minimum trace/space: consult your PCB fab (commonly 0.1/0.1 mm for standard, 0.075/0.075 mm for advanced).

  • Minimum drill size: 0.2–0.3 mm for mechanical drill, 0.1 mm for laser drill (HDI).

  • Keep annular ring width at least 0.05 mm for outer layers, 0.1 mm for inner layers.

  • Add fiducial marks (1 mm copper dot) on three corners for SMT assembly.

  • Use teardrops on pads/vias to improve mechanical reliability.

 

2.Documentation and Output Files

  • Generate Gerber files (RS-274X) with proper aperture definitions.

  • Include drill file (Excellon format), netlist, and pick-and-place file (centroid).

  • Provide fabrication drawing with board outline, dimensions, material (e.g., FR4 TG130), copper weight, and surface finish (e.g., OSP, HASL LF, ENIG).

  • Provide assembly drawing with designator, 2D simulation drawing.
  • Document layer stack-up with thickness, copper weight, and dielectric constant (Dk) for impedance control.
